Cordova faces WBC flyweight world champion Julio Cesar Martinez in the first bout of the Prime Video PPV card on March 30. Cordova (18-0-1, 12 KOs) is coming off two upset wins. His last one was in Indio, CA on a Golden Boy Promotions card over Angel “Tito” Acosta, but his goal is to win a world title. Taking the hard fights was a way for him to pay his dues in the sport, now he looks to hoist the world title above his head to start the pay-per-view portion of the card. “There are plenty of fighters who have not earned their place in the rankings, but I’ve earned my spot,” said Cordova. “I’ve taken every step I’ve needed to, especially here in America. I’m glad that it happened this way so that I could mature as a fighter. This is the perfect time for me to take this step.” The Venezuelan has relocated to New Jersey to pursue his dream of championship glory and is now sacrificing comfort to make his dream a reality. “I came to America with a dream to train hard at the gym. Now I’m here in New Jersey with my family and I’m on the doorstep of achieving my dream,” Cordova added. “I’m right there and I want to make it come true.” Cordova believed he would face Martinez (20-3, 15 KOs) in December. That fight fell apart at the last-minute over travel issues on Martinez’s side. Cordova has not fought since April 6 2023, when he defeated Acosta. Martinez was busy prior to the pandemic, but has seen his activity slow year by year. Last year, Martinez only fought once, and has averaged two fights per year since the global shutdown.
