The fight card will be headlined with a bantamweight title fight as Aljamain Sterling looks to set the record for most bantamweight title defenses against Sean O'Malley. This will be O'Malley's first UFC title fight. Sterling is set to make his fourth title defense against the No. 2-ranked bantamweight contender O'Malley, who brings a large social following with him to the main event. "Sugar" garnered attention after making his debut on the first season of "Dana White's Contender Series." Sterling is critical of the 28-year-old's path to gaining a title shot based on a lack of quality opposition. Sterling faced some of the toughest competitors in the bantamweight division before finally getting a title shot. He defeated Pedro Munhoz, Jimmie Rivera, and Cory Sandhagen, among others, before finally fighting for the belt. Meanwhile, O'Malley holds a 1-1 record, including a no contest, against ranked opponents. The "Funk Master" has defended his title successfully in three consecutive bouts. After winning the belt in controversial fashion due to an illegal knee by Petr Yan at UFC 259, Sterling won by split decision in the rematch at UFC 273 in April of 2022. He then walked away with a finish via a second-round TKO over T.J. Dillashaw at UFC 280, and he was able to get past Henry Cejudo by split decision in his most recent fight at UFC 288 in May. Although Sterling isn't a fan of O'Malley's resume, he is wary of his opponent's length and striking ability. The champion remains cautious about letting the challenger "snipe" him with strikes on Saturday.
