Hipódromo Camarero
Hipódromo Camarero is a purely Puerto Rican company operated by Camarero Race Track Corporation -initially known as Grupo Camarero- whose focus is aimed at the development of equestrian sport in Puerto Rico for the competitive excellence of thoroughbreds and the export of their product to international markets . On January 4, 2007, Camarero Race Track Corporation acquired the facilities of the then El Nuevo Comandante racetrack in Canóvanas and immediately obtained a permanent license to operate them. The racecourse, the only one in Puerto Rico, was built in 1976. Upon acquiring the facilities, the company began its strategic plan to improve them and general operations. One of the biggest changes in the operation was the agreement made with the Scientific Games company to change and update the Totalizer Communication System for its 700 terminals throughout the island and the installation of the Totalizing Board in the facilities of their main track. . In addition, agreements were reached to expand the “Simulcast” of the races at the Hippodrome Camarero to the Caribbean Region and the United States. Similarly, Camarero reached an agreement with the National Equestrian Commission of the Dominican Republic to export via satellite the television signal of horse racing in Puerto Rico to encourage betting from the neighboring country through the "Simulcast" system. Given the success achieved and the enthusiasm of the Dominican fans, the Hippodrome Camarero will promote the television broadcast of horse racing in Puerto Rico to other markets abroad such as Panama. The Camarero Group has committed millions of dollars in capital improvements such as: improvements in the conditioning and conditions of the main track, and a program of over four million dollars in loans to horse owners for the purchase of horses.
